From Student Today To Professional Tomorrow with Vanajan

Learning at the Heart of a Finnish Biscuit Bakery

As a student, you start today. Tomorrow, you could be the one developing a new recipe with us, solving a process challenge, or helping improve the quality of our production.

We want to offer students and trainees real opportunities – not just tasks, but chances to develop, take on responsibility and grow. This is how we build a bridge between theory and practice in the everyday life of Finnish food production.

Every year, trainees from a wide range of backgrounds join us. From food industry students to those in logistics, or even construction. We also collaborate on projects and training programs that support international talents in taking their first steps into working life in Finland – right here at our biscuit factory in Hämeenlinna.

Trainees bring us fresh perspectives, ideas and energy that help us develop both our products and our ways of working.

Where Schools and Biscuit Production Meets

Our close partnerships with Häme Vocational Institute (HAMI), Häme University of Applied Sciences (HAMK), Tavastia Education Consortium and the City of Hämeenlinna allow us to connect theory with the daily rhythm of a biscuit factory. It’s not just about the right recipes – it’s about understanding food safety culture, precision in quality control, teamwork in a fast-paced environment, and the responsibility each person carries for workplace safety.

Food industry trainees get to work with recipe development and quality control. Others apply their own skills within the framework of food production, learning what it means to keep things running smoothly when thousands of biscuits come out of the oven each day.

From Trainee to Colleague

Many trainees stay with Vanajan even after their training period ends. This spring alone, several trainees became permanent members of our team.

The feedback we receive speaks volumes: at Vanajan, people roll up their sleeves together, help is always available, and the work feels meaningful.

At the same time, trainees bring us fresh perspectives, ideas and energy that help us develop both our products and our ways of working.

The future is baked here

Every day at Vanajan, thousands of biscuits come out of the oven, and with them, new career paths take shape. With over 60 years of baking know-how combined with the fresh perspectives of students, we’re keeping Finland’s food industry strong for the future.
